Here is the basics of how Relora is supposed to help weight loss: Too much stress keeps people from sleeping properly. This, in turn, might lead to gaining weight ânot only from raiding the fridge at nightâbut also because it might increase levels of a hormone calledcortisol.
Cortisol is a necessary hormone and as such, does some useful things. However, elevated cortisol levels over long periods of time, are linked to some bad things, including loss of muscle. Cortisol can also increase appetite. Belly fat also has cortisol receptors so they are influenced by cortisol also. To quote the Relora.com website:
Belly fat âhas four times as many [cortisol] receptors, making it particularly sensitive to cortisol. In fact, belly fat responds to stress hormones by increasing in size.â
So, if I understand this correctly, Relora is supposed to block the effects of cortisol and in doing so, reduce stress âand stress induced eatingâhelping people sleep better and reduce belly fat.
Health care professionals generally recommend 50 mg of 5-HTP taken 1 - 3 times per day. Some studies have used higher doses, but because 5-HTP can be toxic at high doses, you should talk to your health care provider before raising the dose. Your health care provider can help determine the right dose for you.
Because of the potential for side effects and interactions with medications, you should take dietary supplements only under the supervision of your health care provider.
Tryptophan use has been associated with the development of serious conditions, such as liver and brain toxicity, and with eosinophilic myalgia syndrome (EMS), a potentially fatal disorder that affects the skin, blood, muscles, and organs (see "Overview" section). Such reports prompted the FDA to ban the sale of all tryptophan supplements in 1989. As with tryptophan, EMS has been reported in 10 people taking 5-HTP.
Side effects of 5-HTP are generally mild and may include nausea, heartburn, gas, feelings of fullness, and rumbling sensations in some people. At high doses, it is possible that serotonin syndrome, a dangerous condition caused by too much serotonin in the body, could develop. Always talk to your health care provider before taking higher-than-recommended doses.
People with high blood pressure or diabetes should talk to their doctor before taking 5-HTP.
If you take antidepressants, you should not take 5-HTP (see "Possible Interactions" sections).
People with liver disease, pregnant women, and women who are breastfeeding should not take 5-HTP.
If you are currently being treated with any of the following medications, you should not use 5-HTP without first talking to your health care provider.
Antidepressants -- People who are taking antidepressant medications should not take 5-HTP without their health care provider's supervision. These medications could combine with 5-HTP to cause serotonin syndrome, a dangerous condition involving mental changes, hot flashes, rapidly fluctuating blood pressure and heart rate, and possibly coma. Some antidepressant medications that can interact with 5-HTP include:
Carbidopa -- Taking 5-HTP with carbidopa, a medication used to treat Parkinson's disease, may cause a scleroderma-like illness. Scleroderma is a condition where the skin becomes hard, thick, and inflamed.
Tramadol (Ultram) -- Tramadol, used for pain relief and sometimes prescribed for people with fibromyalgia, may raise serotonin levels too much if taken with 5-HTP. Serotonin syndrome has been reported in some people taking the two together.
Dextromethorphan (Robitussin DM, and others) -- Taking 5-HTP with dextromethorphan, found in cough syrups, may cause serotonin levels to increase to dangerous levels, a condition called serotonin syndrome.
Meperidine (Demerol) -- Taking 5-HTP with Demerol may cause serotonin levels to increase to dangerous levels, a condition called serotonin syndrome.
Triptans (used to treat migraines) -- 5-HTP can increase the risk of side effects, including serotonin syndrome, when taken with these medications:
For use in the reduction of stress and related symptoms.
Adults take 1 capsule three times daily or as recommended by a health care practitioner.
Magnesium Bisglycinate, GR-Plex, Sleep Factors.
Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Keep out of reach of children.
Dr. Crisafiâs comments:
Stress is unavoidable in our fast-paced world. We have deadlines to meet, family responsibilities, financial concerns, and more. Even happy events such as marriage or a new baby can be stressful. It is important to manage stress in order to prevent it from damaging our health. In addition to a healthful diet, exercise, and relaxation, RX Balance⢠Relora®-Plus can provide powerful stress relief.
The main ingredient in this exceptional formula is Relora®, a combination of two herbs Magnolia and Amur corktree which have been safely used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Today, modern scientific studies using Relora®confirm its safety and demonstrate that it helps to reduce elevated cortisol and increase depressed DHEA, bringing them to normal levels. Chronic stress causes a significant increase in cortisol (our fight-or-flight hormone) and a decrease in DHEA (a hormone responsible for antiaging and sex drive). Our fight-or-flight response causes our heart rate to speed up, our blood pressure to rise, our muscles to tense up, and our blood sugar to increase. Low DHEA can lead to depression, joint pain, low sex drive, poor memory, difficulty losing weight, and a weakened immune system. In addition to balancing these hormones, Relora®also binds to neurotransmitter receptors in the central nervous system that are specific to enhancing mood and producing a calming effect.
The GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, in this formula helps to regulate the firing of neurons in the brain and induces relaxation and reduces muscle tension, stress, and anxiety.
The calming neuronutrient 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) in this formula increases serotonin levels and supports calmness, relaxation, and good sleep. The stresses of everyday life can result in a deficiency in serotonin. Although serotonin is not a hormone, it is sometimes referred to as a âhappiness hormone,â because it is responsible for our feelings of well-being. Serotonin is required for balanced mood and healthy sleep patterns. When serotonin levels are depleted, our natural body rhythms are disturbed and we can experience depression and other psychological disturbances, such as anxiety, sleeplessness, moodiness, fatigue, poor concentration, and low self-esteem.
Vitamins B2, B6, and B12 and folic acid work synergistically in this formula to help support a healthy nervous system.

Melatonin is a natural, non-addicting hormone supplement that assists with sleep. Millions of people in the United States take it in order to get a good nightâs sleep after having difficulties falling asleep or staying asleep. However, beware! Melatonin may be harmful to your sleep if taken inappropriately.
It tells your body that itâs nighttime and itâs time to go to bed. Melatonin is a powerful hormone. Many may mistake its power for that of a sleeping pill and feel compelled to take more for better sleep. However, at the wrong dosage, melatonin may actually destroy your sleep cycle. Too much melatonin at one time may also cause headaches, nausea, dizziness, or irritability.
When should you take melatonin?
If you know youâre going to have a major shift in sleep schedule: Because of how melatonin works, it can be beneficial for those who know they will be up late for a few nights in a row and know they will have trouble getting back to their normal sleep schedule. It also works well for jetlag.
If youâre over 60 years old and are having trouble sleeping: Your body makes less melatonin as you age, so your body may need more assistance with melatonin to help you sleep better.
When shouldnât you take melatonin?
If you canât sleep because of issues like stress, depression or anxiety: Melatonin may not work in those cases because the problem doesnât lie with the bodyâs ability to make its own melatonin. You may benefit from practicing (201) 497-0269to calm your body and distract your brain.
If you have already taken melatonin earlier that evening: Because it is so powerful, too much melatonin may actually disrupt your sleeping pattern, which may lead to your waking up in the middle of the night. Some people complain of a âmelatonin hangover,â which may lead to them feeling even more groggy and unrested! This happens because any residual melatonin in your system in the morning will make your body think itâs still nighttime â and it will be even harder to wake up.
Centella asiatica is a perennial creeping herb in the carrot family. The plant is also known as gotu kola and grows abundantly in shady, moist, or marshy areas. It is distributed widely in many parts of the world, including India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, South Africa, Australia, China, and Japan.
What is it used for?
Gotu kola has a long history of use in numerous medical systems. In India, the plant has been used to treat skin inflammation, diabetes, cough, cataracts and other eye conditions, and to improve memory. In Europe, an infusion of the aerial parts of the plant was used to purify the blood and treat wounds, ulcers, skin inflammation, and hypertension. A similar infusion has been used in Indonesia and Brazil to help improve memory. In Malaysia, the plant was used to treat respiratory ailments, such as bronchitis and asthma, and stomach complaints, including dysentery, kidney trouble, inflammation of the urethra, and swelling. In Malaya, an infusion from this plant is sold as a tonic and cold beverage to treat liver ailments, tuberculosis, and blood in the urine. In the past, people in Japan valued the plant for its diuretic and detoxicant properties. Sri Lankans noticed that elephants, known for their longevity, ate the leaves of the plant. Thus, the leaves were believed to promote long life, with a suggested âdosageâ of a few leaves each day. In South China, the plant is used as a dietary supplement to promote health and immune system function.
Gotu kola has been traditionally used as treatment for a variety of conditions and as an aphrodisiac. It may be useful in treating wounds, varicose veins, skin disorders, blood flow problems, and to enhance memory, although there is little clinical information to support these claims.
What is the recommended dosage?
Dosages of gotu kola in crude form range from 1.5 to 4 g/day. Various extracts standardized to asiaticoside content also are available and have been studied in clinical trials in blood flow problems and wound (450) 979-5454 at extract doses of 30 to 90 mg/day. Wound-healing studies have involved topical application of a hydrogel ointment containing a titrated extract of C. asiatica(TECA). Commercial manufacturers have numerous dosage regimens listed for gotu kola.
How safe is it?
Avoid use if hypersensitive to any of the ingredients of gotu kola.
Avoid use during (614) 249-8646 and lactation because gotu kola may induce menstruation.
None well documented.
Contact dermatitis is documented in some clinical trials.
Three cases of liver toxicity have been reported with patients using C. asiatica for 20 to 60 days.
Omega-3 fats are acquired from both animal and plant sources, but there is a lot of confusion when it comes to what type you should take to get the best omega-3 benefits.
Marine animals such as fish and krill provide eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) anddocosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are mostly promoted for their protective effects on your heart. Flaxseed, chia, hemp, and a few other foods, on the other hand, offer alpha-linoleic acid (ALA). 2
You would want to choose an animal-based variety â most of the health benefits linked to omega-3 fats are linked to the animal-based EPA and DHA, not the plant-based ALA.
Furthermore, ALA is converted into EPA and DHA in your body at a very low ratio. What this means is that even if you consume large amounts of ALA, your body can only convert a relatively small amount into EPA and DHA, and only when there are sufficient enzymes.
Remember, though, that plant-based omega-3 fats are NOT inherently harmful or should be avoided. Ideally, what you want to do is include an animal-based form in your diet. For instance, you can combine flax and hemp in your diet with animal-based omega-3s.
